Beck's books is a chain of bookstores in Chicago that serves local colleges and universities. Beck's Bookstores wanted an elegant and professional design, particularly because their previous logo conveyed the appearance of selling children's books. The distinctively customized "B" was chosen because it had a certain "bookshop" character and did not appear to be "corporate", an image Beck's wanted to avoid.
